Is my data secure on Project Roller?

Yes, your data is absolutely secure on our cloud servers from the eyes of malware attacks. We take data security very seriously thus the entire data control is in your hands.

What does a project Dashboard look like?

Project Dashboard shows project manager and member names and includes project description, if any. It further provides a snapshot of project related variables including Tasks, its distribution among members, billable and non-billable time and activity done by members of a project against various tasks.

Can I add comments to the tasks and projects?

Both Project Managers and individual team members have the rights to add comments to the tasks. These comments can be viewed by other team members also. Admin can restrict a user’s right to add/view comments in a project.

Can I change the start date and due date of a project any time?

Only the project manager has the permission to change the dates of a specific project.

Is there a limit to adding subtasks?

No, you can add as many subtasks as you wish, each subtask may have different assignees.

Can I also assign priority to a particular task or project?

Yes, you can set task and project priority as high, somewhat, low. By Default, the Priority is set as “not set” category

Can I also add time manually?

Yes, All users with specific rights can add time manually and export time sheets in PDF, CSV and Excel formats.

Is it a web or a desktop app?

Project Roller has both web and desktop app versions. Users Need to use the Desktop App to record time and both the app versions can be used to mark tasks as complete or Uncomplete.

Do we have different views for project managers and individual team members?

Yes, there are separate dashboards for PMs and individual team members having different permissions. Project managers can assign roles, add projects and people, access time reports etc. Individual team members have default access to projects and tasks they are allocated to but Project managers can add more rights to their memberships within a Project or Company as a whole.

Is there any limits on the number of users, tasks, time sheets, projects, or subtasks I can add in my account?

No, there are no such categorical limits. You can add and manage as many users, tasks, projects or subtasks as you may wish.

Getting Started

Will the app be free forever?

At this time, we have made all features of the app available for free for Freelancers. For Teams – the app would be free to use for the first 2 months.

How does this app help in invoicing?

Our app includes lots of useful information which improves invoicing. You can find billable and non-billable time details for team members and for the entire project, which helps you create an invoice knowing exactly how much to bill. This is also useful for tracking employee productivity.

How do I retrieve deleted files for a project?

Once deleted, the files cannot be retrieved. Make sure you create a copy of the file on your local disk before deleting it from the app.

How can I edit a user’s permission for accessibility on the app?

  • Click on People
  • The screen will show all the people registered on the app irrespective of their role
  • Click on the user whose permission you would like to edit
  • It will open the User Permissions window
  • The person’s permissions would be set to default according to that person’s role
  • You can edit these permissions by selecting or deselecting the role permissions between Member, Admin and Report Viewer.
  • Click on Apply once you are done

How can I edit user’s permissions on a project?

  • Click on Projects
  • Go to the People tab
  • It will automatically populate the names of all team members working on the project
  • Click on the team member’s name whose permissions you would like to edit
  • Select or deselect the options that grant or deny permissions
  • Click on Save

Can the team members remove the data files?

Team members will have the option to edit their own data files, but they will not be able to remove other files saved for a project.

How can I determine access for the reports?

  • Click on Role Permission
  • Then select Screen Permission
  • Select the Role from the dropdown menu
  • Select the screens to which a specific role will have access to

Who can access these Time and Task reports?

Access to the reports is limited to people based on their rights within the app. While the admin and Super admin will have complete access to reports for all projects; the project managers will have access to Full reports for the projects that they are managing and the team members will have access to reports relating to their time reports and task activity.

How do I download the Time reports?

  • Click on Time Reports
  • Go to the desired Time Reports tab and select the date range and the team member’s name (or the Project Name)
  • Once the report populates on the screen, click on the download icon on the top right.
  • Confirm that you want to proceed with the download and the download will begin
  • Once the report is downloaded, check the Download folder on your computer or the chosen folder where downloads are saved for that browser.

How can I save screenshots from the screenshot activity page?

  • Go to the Screenshot Activity page by clicking on Reports and then Screenshot Activity
  • Enter the date range and the team member’s name
  • When the screenshots populate, you will have the option to download screenshots using the download icon on the top right of this page.
